19% of Texas children live in high poverty neighborhoods. That is almost 1 out of every 5 kids in Texas that lack the resources to secure the necessities of life. These are everyday children, full of curiosity, going to school and playing with friends just like every other kid. However, when their families cannot afford everything they need, this adds a huge weight to their lives. I wanted to do something to help lift that burden on kids around Houston, so that they can focus on learning, growing, and having fun. That's why I started Strut. Strut aims to provide "care closets" in low income schools around Houston, filled to the brim with personal goods such as shampoo, toothpaste, and feminine products, free of charge for any child in need of them. All proceeds from the annual fashion show hosted by Strut go towards purchasing products for these closets. While these products may not be much, I hope that they can provide these kids with confidence and take at least one of their worries away, helping them thrive.
